Blogging gets a bad rap!

Read the following articles before taking part in our discussion.

Based upon using the above readings to provide evidence, answer the following questions. Full credit will only be awarded if direct quotes from the reading are used and this also includes citing where the quote originated.

There are many blogging sites out there, not just MYSPACE. And yet, everyday they are on the news. Just yesterday, CNN has a news story on how inmates are socializing with teenagers on this site.

   Why do you think MYSPACE has gotten so much media attention? Is it justified?
2. How will this ultimately affect (teachers, students, administrators, parents, etc.) perceptions of online blogging?
3. Post one more comment of something you found of interest in the reading.
4. Take part in the discussion by commenting on at least one others persons comment. To get full credit, remember to list the persons name, what they said, and why you agree/disagree with thier comment.

Leave your comments under this subject. First, create a comment on this post and type your link address to your blog, which has your political cartoon. Then, comment here on a least 8 others. Comments may include the message that you interpret from the graphic and suggestions on how to better get the message across. You can also add what you liked/disliked about the graphic.

Originality over quality any day in my class:

Personally, I like creativeness and originality. I don't like the ones that students copied off of online sites and simply traced. I also don't like the ones that stole a political message and saying from one of the websites I gave out. You need to think for yourself. Put in the effort to think about what you are working on in class. You certainly are given enough time to do that.

I think of it this way, if you run out of time, then you probably wasted it while in class. I see the computer screens, and I know who you are. I am smart enough to realize it, even if I have yet to comment on it.

Online Security Questions

Discussion #1

First of all, you will need to log into this site with your own eblogger id. It will require a google account. Do all this stuff first. See me and classmates if you need help.

Second, this week we had a discussion that involved security (blocking websites) and censorship. Let's wrap up the discussion we started. Answer the following questions and respond to at least two other postings from two different people in class.

Please realize that these two questions are related - not separate- of each other when answering.

Question #1 When is it appropriate or not appropriate for websites to be blocked?

Question #2 When sites are blocked, is there a governmental right(1st amendment, freedom of speech) that is not being serviced either to the student or the author of the site?
